Meeting Josh Favaloro was a reminder of the importance of building networks and putting yourself out there.

Josh, the 178th person I’ve met on my quest to have lunch with 500 strangers, is lucky to have a great job with a great company – but he’s made his own luck.

When Josh was in high school, he did videography and photography as a hobby, while also working at a cafe. Josh had the bright idea of asking if he could advertise some of his photos for sale in the cafe. So when Josh’s boss heard that the owner of a video company (who was a regular customer) needed an assistant, he recommended Josh.

Within days of finishing school, Josh began an apprenticeship as a video assistant. Over the next six years, as he learned his craft, he was given more and more responsibility.

At the same time, two of Josh’s friends, who worked at a creative agency, said their company wanted a skilled videographer, and suggested Josh put himself forward. That’s how Josh ended up working for The Being Group.

So why did I have lunch with Josh? Because he suggested it.
